2006 - Number 3

Commodore's comment

Not really comments more of a moan.
One of the Radios was found by a member of the public beside the Start Box one Wednesday evening. The Clubhouse and Sheds have been found left open on more than one occasion. The water tap in the dinghy yard has been left unlocked on several occasions. The Dinghy Yard gate and the beach dinghy park have both been left open. The Avon RIB was found full of water because the balers had been left down some of the electrical wiring was destroyed by the sea water and had to be rewired. The Avon was also found hanging by its forward mooring line.
Would all OOD's and Rescue Officers please ensure that all buildings are secure after sailing and rescue boats re-fueled and tied up correctly. If any doubts please ask myself or another appropriate Committee Member.

MISSING ITEMS

  • Two tie down straps - one blue marked NORTHCRAFT and one yellow marked DRS disappeared when Club boats were moved to Stonehaven from Skene. Any info please call me.
  • Two aluminium oars have been removed from the Cruiser Shed any info please call Richard Hailes.

Helen is looking for help for the Regatta. If you would like to make sandwiches or do some home baking please call her on 01224 480343.

The Catterline Race happened in very light conditions and was won by Bruce Campbell and Willie Mckendrick in their Fireball. John Styles took his wooden Wayfarer to the Portsoy Traditional Boat Festival. He won First Prize in the “A” Fleet a beautiful Old Pulteney Decanter accompanied by a bottle of the Amber Nectar to fill it. Bruce Campbell crewed so looks like he's a lucky mascot to have around. The Commodore's Race on the 29th was cancelled due to fog however we managed three races on Sunday . Congratulations to James Lewis and Alan Fraser for winning all three races in a Fireball.

Social Events - Notes from Helen Sinclaire (Catering Convenor)

Following the Catterline Race the BBQ was very poorly attended only seven people turned up. Why do we bother with Social Events ???

Winter boat storage - Notes from Andy MacLennan (Bosun)

Despite the recent high temperatures, sadly it's time to look ahead to the end of the season and this years winter boat storage!

To simplify matters (and save the Club postage costs!!) could all members who wish to be considered for winter boat storage please download the form which is available on the club website. These should be completed and returned to me no later than Friday, 15th September. Forms which arrive after this date will not go in the draw!!
Return address is: Andy MacLennan, 7 Fraser Street, Aberdeen. AB25 3XT.

Depending on uptake, I will try and accomodate any members who may wish to take their boats to Royal Tay for the winter series.

Please remember that if you are awarded a space, you MUST attend work party to help put your boat away.
Many thanks Andy

Junior Sailing

The Junior fleet managed to set forth 8 times this year in very variable sailing conditions. Thanks to all the help from both parents and other club members all the kids seem to enjoy their time on the water, though it was often hard to prevent the Topper fleet from capsizing (on purpose). The sessions culminated in a sweltering hot “Fun Day” at Stonehaven. A big THANK YOU again to everyone who helped get this day so successful. Due to unforeseen circumstances the Junior sailing had to be cancelled for the last two session - better luck next time.

If any of you fancy an outing with a Junior crew I have several very willing and able Junior club members. Who do not have parents to take them out sailing. Interested? Contact Ditta on 01569-762206
