Flood Tide
HW -5hrs to HW + 2hrs

  • Offshore from the Bay, the flow generally runs South on when flooding
  • Downie point creates a back-eddy
  • Counterflow goes north past harbour outer wall and along the beach
  • Rejoins main flow beyond Cowie

Ebb Tide
HW +2 hrs to HW -5 hrs

  • Tidal flow changes 1.5-2 hours after high water
  • Slack water period very short
  • Main flow 1.5 knots with Spring Tides
  • <1 knot with Neap Tide
  • Tide often a little stronger off Downie Point
  • Tidal rates in bay ca.0.5 knots
  • Ebbing Tide; no back-eddy
