As of 1140 this morning (Wednesday 1 Feb), the Regional Race Management Seminar to be hosted at Chanonry Sailing Club, Fortrose on 11 & 12 February needed just one more person to sign-up to make it viable (and that is after concessions over numbers have been applied). Could you or someone in your club be that person ensure that this can go ahead? It is likely to be the only RRMS in Scotland this year!
Why do I think the RRMS is important to us all ? First, if your club is RYA affiliated and has signed-up to the Racing Charter the undertaking is to
provide shore facilities, administration and race management to acceptable standards and appropriate to the event.
I'm sure that most of us recognize the sense in undertaking training to improve our skills and the RRMS is the classroom training for Race Officers who would like to hold a RYA qualification. Furthermore, if you have a qualified Regional Race Officer in your club, they can teach the one day Club Race Officer course to your members (a club level qualification).
I know that one or 2 people are thinking about signing-up but are concerned about experience (or lack of it). If you have raced (keel or dinghy) at club level or acted as a Club Race Officer, you can attend this course and gain a Club Race Officer + ticket. If you then act as the Race Officer for some open events you can gain the full Regional Race Officer ticket but you are not obliged to do this.
The course fees are £75 however Coaching Highland is offering to cover this (for Highland Residents) provided you apply (online) in advance of the course and undertake to help train race officers at your club.
At the moment, Chanonry & Invergordon are the only clubs standing to benefit from this opportunity. Please take this last chance to spead the word.
