Q... What boats do you sail?

A... ASYC welcomes all classes of dinghies and there is a thriving handicap racing fleet. However, there are significant fleets of Fireball and Lasers in the club and in 2008 these classes were offered separate starts at monthly club regattas. In 2009, other classes with more than 5 boats actively racing are being encouraged to form fleet groups. These include Blaze, Musto Skiff and RS200

Q... What is the racing season?

A... The club is active at the Loch of Skene from the beginning of March to the end of May, and at Stonehaven from June to the end of November. In the past the sailing season has terminated at the end of October but was extended to the end of November on a trial basis in 2007.

Q... What times of the week do you sail?

A... On Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 or 2pm onwards, weather permitting, between March and October there will be club sailing and rescue cover at either Loch of Skene or Stonehaven. Boats may not sail at the Loch of Skene without rescue cover. Between April and September there is also club sailing on Wednesday evenings from 7pm. In November, sailing at Stonehaven is restricted to Sunday afternoons.

Q... Where is the club?

A... The main clubhouse is on the harbour front at Stonehaven. However the club also has use of a gatehouse to Dunecht Estates by the Loch of Skene to support inland sailing between March and May. For maps and details see the 'Find us' section of this website.

Q... What facilities does  the club have?

A... The club owns a 4-storey building on the harbour front at Stonehaven which provides changing, social and bar facilities. In addition the club owns sheds and land on the harbour front for boat storage and dinghy parking, and rents land to the south of the harbour above the beach for further dinghy parking. The club also owns 3 RIB's for rescue cover, an inboard launch, and a fleet of dinghies for memebrs to hire (6 Optimists, 5 Toppers, 2 Lasers, a 420, a Laser2, and a RS Feva).

Q... How to I join the club?

A... To join the club you will need to complete a membership application form and obatin the signature of a proposing and seconding member. You can download an application form from the membership section of this site. Currently, there is a limitation of new menbers wishing to bring boats to the club due to congestion of dinghy parking space at both Loch of Skene and Stonehaven, and the club is seeking to resolve this issue.

Q... How much are the membership fees?

A... Currently, there is a one-off joining fee, and a membership fee structure covering social, junior, individual and family membership. You can find the current fee structure in the 'Membership info' section of this website.

Q... Does the club run training courses?

A... The club runs RYA approved powerboat handling and rescue courses, whisch are offered to both members and non-members. The club does not offer any RYA approved sailing courses. There is a junior teaching programme run by volundeer members, but this is not RYA approved and the instructors do not necessarily have any sail training qualifications.

Q... How can I contact the club?

A... You can e-mail or telephone a club officer using the links in the 'Contact us' Section of this website, or write to the clubhouse address which is also given in the 'Contact us' section.
