The annual open regatta is held over a weekend during August each year. Weather permitting, the event comprises six races over two days for five or six class fleets, using two or three different courses in Stonehaven Bay. There is always a class start for Fireballs and Lasers, and a General Handicap fleet. The selection of other class starts varies depending on which are using the event as part of their Scottish traveller series. The event is often used as the venue for Scottish Championship by various classes.

The regatta is usually attended by 60-70 dinghies from around Scotland, with the record being 130. Launching is from the two harbour slipways, or from the beach below the dinghy park to the south. Visiting boats may be parked overnight around the harbour wall. The Club lays on a barbeque on the Saturday evening, and the race entrance fee includes a sandwich lunch to take out and eat between races.
